Description
The 2024 Kawasaki Ninja e-1 is the company’s first foray into electric motorcycles, where it’s all about fusing its most iconic design with eco-friendly performance. Key features include:
The vehicle is driven by a 5-kW brushless electric motor whose peak output reaches 9 kW (12 PS). This allows for accelerations comparable with those of a 125cc motorcycle, but the top speed is limited to 88 km/h in ROAD mode and 64 km/h in ECO mode.
It has a single-speed, clutchless bike that reduces the complexity in riding.
The system comes with two removable lithium-ion batteries, each weighing 11.5 kg. It can be charged either on or off the bike.
Charging time for a full charge takes 3.7 hours and that for 20% to 85% is about 1.6 hours. The regenerative braking helps in extending the range since it involves charging of the batteries during deceleration.
Design and Features: The Ninja e-1 retains its sporty Ninja styling with a complete fairing bodywork and LED lighting. It has a light frame, weighed at about 140 kg, based on the Ninja/Z400 chassis and looks quite agile, suitable for starters.
That also means it has a 4.3-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity.
Modes and Assist: ECO and ROAD riding modes are available with WALK mode for slow-speed maneuverability and an inverse function. They’re accompanied by disc brakes with ABS for increased safety.
Use Case: The Ninja e-1 is suitable for urban commuting, producing zero emissions with a reduced operational expense compared to gasoline-powered motorcycles, besides having an easy-riding feature.
The MSRP is over $7,000, reflecting its premium features and focus on sustainability.
